Taiga Biomes are located in northern America and in the northern part of Europe. Taiga is the Russian word for Forest and is the largest biome in the world. Taiga biomes are located near the top of the world, just below the Tundra biome. Taiga biomes temperature can dip and rise over a coarse of 24 hours so it helps to be ready for any type of weather. The soil in taiga biomes is very poor and does not contain essential nutrients for large trees. There isn't much precipitation that occurs in taiga biomes during the summer. This tends to create a problem due to heavy bark found on trees there. The outbreak of fires during the summer in taiga biomes is very high.
Facts:
-In the taiga, the average temperature is below freezing for 6 months of the year.Total yearly precipitation in the taiga is 12 -33 inches.Although the cold winters have some snowfall , most of the precipitation
comes during the warm, humid summer months.
-The taiga has a long, harsh winter and the cool, short summer. In the winter, the
Taiga's temperatures can get as low as -65 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest
its been known to get in the winter is about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The taiga
has a subarctic climate.
Latitude the taiga is located between 50 degrees latitude north and the Arctic circle.
The taiga is found throughout the high northern latitudes, between the tundra, and the temperate forest, from about 50°N to 70°N, but with considerable regional variation. It has a high elevation since it is in the mountains.
Terrain type The Canadian Shield has a surface of rock that blocks water from reaching the surface, and makes up a large part of the taiga biome. The taiga has many interesting types of land. Extreme cold in the taiga creates a layer of ground called permafrost. Permafrost is ground that is permanently frozen. Water can't break through this layer. Most of the taiga is made up of bogs that have a soft carpet of moss on the forest floor. Many parts of the taiga's land are more liquid than solid.
